Exodus 16 Q&A
Questions and Answers on Exodus 16
1 Who makes up the family of God?
The multitude that came out of Egypt was mixed, Hebrews and Egyptians and possibly others. They passed through the Red Sea together and were from then on called Israelites, children of Abraham. This may be what the Apostle Paul was getting at when he said that Abraham is the father of those of faith in God.
2 Why isn’t the Christian life easier?
Since character and faith are developed in times of testing, God will certainly test us. We must also realize we live in a sin sick world. The trials of this life, though difficult, only serve to strengthen the true believer.
3 What was the next test they faced?
Marah – After 3 days they were out of water. People and animals would soon die of thirst. Where would they turn? How would they react? Where is their trust placed?
4 Why didn’t God give them manna from the start?
Lessons of faith come in the tests. God used their hunger to humble them and teach them that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
5 Where is our dissatisfaction ultimately aimed?
If God is ultimately Sovereign over all things, then all our dissatisfaction in our personal life is aimed at God. Of course there is godly dissatisfaction with evil in the world, but that is not a personal dissatisfaction with the circumstances of one’s life. One can be righteously dissatisfied that someone suffers because of the sins of another, but at the same time, we must accept that God has allowed it for the present.
6 Why did Moses become angry with the people?
They did not listen to the Lord’s instructions. They gathered more than they were supposed to and it did rot and have worms. They went out on the Sabbath to look for manna even when the Lord told them not to go. Moses was angry with them for not believing God for their own good.
7 What was the origin of the Sabbath?
Creation! God rested on the seventh day. Since God is the ultimate standard of good, a day of rest is advisable. It is physiologically and emotionally good for us. Egypt knew nothing of a day of rest.
8 What did the Apostle Paul teach about the Sabbath?
Romans 14 – One man esteems one day above another, and another man esteems every day as sacred to the LORD. Each person should be fully persuaded in his own mind.
9 Why did God have them keep a jar of manna?
Manna was a sign of God’s provision. Ultimately, it represented God’s provision for our spiritual hunger, Jesus.
10 How does this relate to Jesus?
Jesus is the only One that can satisfy the hunger of the heart of man. He declared Himself to be the true bread from heaven. (John 6) He said that the bread that God gives is His own flesh which He will give for the life of the world.
11 Are you gathering fresh manna each morning?
You might be through this devotional site, but you need to gather your own directly from the Word of God. Like the manna in the wilderness, it will be enough for each day’s spiritual need. Take time to be in God’s word and let Him speak to your heart.
